La propagation internationale d’une représentation. Le cas du décrochage scolaire

Abstract
Les préoccupations relatives au « décrochage scolaire » ont émergé aux États-Unis dans les années 1960. Elles semblent ensuite avoir connu un déclin dans la décennie suivante, pour réapparaître dans les années 1980 et conduire à la mise en place d’un système de collecte de données sur le phénomène au début des années 1990. Au cours des années, la notion de décrochage scolaire s’est progressivement diffusée dans d’autres espaces nationaux, anglophones dans un premier temps comme le Canada anglais, puis francophones. Notre article cherche à mieux comprendre cette propagation. L’analyse proposée souligne que la propagation ne se réalise pas sans un travail social explicite et elle décrit les conditions intellectuelles, sociales et économiques qui ont permis l’appropriation et l’utilisation du concept de décrochage scolaire dans différentes sociétés.
