La globalisation est généralement comprise comme un processus de mondialisation. On insiste ici sur tout ce qui différencie une orientation économique planétaire qui a le globe pour référent díune orientation cosmopolitique qui se soucie politiquement du monde. Cette dernière peut être définie en tirant les conséquences de la distinction arendtienne des trois activités humaines. Le souci politique pour le monde se déploie sous trois aspects : conçu comme écosystème du vivant au regard du travail, le monde appelle une écologie politique ; conçu comme patrimoine commun de líhumanité au regard de líúuvre, le monde appelle une politique úcuménique ; conçu comme pluralité de communautés divisées au regard de líaction, le monde appelle une cosmo-politique des conflits. Un point de vue cosmopolitique ainsi entendu constitue une ressource critique pour analyser líacosmisme propre à la globalisation et expliciter ce qui différencie la domination globale actuelle de la domination totale du xx e siècle.
