Abstract
Deux grilles de lecture sont sollicitées comme principes d’intelligibilité permettant une approche compréhensive des établissements scolaires « de dernière chance », qui accueillent un public d’élèves relégués. L’institution totale, à travers le concept de carrière morale du reclus, et la stigmatisation, à travers l’itinéraire moral du stigmatisé, permettent de comprendre les identités des élèves à travers un mélange d’enfermement et de sentiment d’enfermement dans un univers scolaire cloisonné, et d’interactions et de jugements scolaires disqualifiant les élèves. Les enjeux interactionnels, brouillage et malaise dans la communication, les stratégies de présentation de soi ou de dissimulation de la biographie aident à saisir ce qui rend vacillantes et chancelantes ces identités d’élèves.
