Abstract
La littérature francophone d’Afrique et des Antilles émerge dans un projet de contestation de la situation de domination qui a créé ses conditions de possibilités. Le discours critique va faire de l’engagement un critère de légitimation presque incontournable dans le champ littéraire africain et antillais. L’engagement étant presque toujours évalué à partir des prises de position et des déclarations des écrivains, on en arrive à une saturation du champ de la critique par un personnage omniscient. Face à cette surévaluation de l’auteur, qui fonde la tentation du charismatique, il s’agit ici, sans contester la place centrale de l’auteur dans le dispositif littéraire, de recentrer le concept d’engagement au coeur même de la textualité. La conscience des conditions de naissance de l’écriture francophone, de l’oralité déstabilisée à l’écriture contrainte, fait du texte un lieu exemplaire de manifestation de la traversée qui signale autant la généalogie esthétique que la passionnante inscription de la littérature dans le combat des peuples en quête de leur dignité.
