This paper analyzes the trade policies of Colombia between 2001 and 2010, compared to international trade with Canada, in order to assess their relevance and effectiveness during that period, which concludes that the challenges of Colombian society on issues of free trade, are comprehensive, joint commitment, why all parties have to develop joint work on the improvement of the competitive capabilities of the country, from the micro enterprises to macro, the government and the actions that arise from of raised there in terms of taxes, trade tariffs and integration
