Abstract
L’élection de onze députés des Français établis hors de France a constitué l’une des principales nouveautés des élections législatives de 2012. À travers l’analyse de la campagne dans la 1 re circonscription des Français de l’étranger (Canada et États-Unis), cet article met en évidence les contraintes originales auxquels les candidats à ces mandats inédits ont dû faire face. La méconnaissance de l’électorat, sa dispersion au sein de circonscriptions immenses ou encore la faible structuration partisane sont autant de facteurs qui ont fortement affecté leur travail de mobilisation électorale. L’article montre également que par leurs pratiques de campagne mêmes, les différents candidats ont participé à poser les jalons d’un espace politique local français en Amérique du Nord.
