Abstract
This chapter provides a review of two diagnostic conditions: Gender Dysphoria in children and adolescents and paraphilic sexual behavior (primarily sexual offenses against children) perpetrated by adolescents. For gender dysphoria, we provide an overview of diagnostic changes as reflected in the DSM-5, assessment measures, associated psychopathology and its correlates, sex differences in referral rates (and the contemporary increase in referral rates of adolescents), risk factors (biological and psychosocial), a summary of new follow-up studies, and, from a developmental perspective, therapeutic approaches to clinical management. For paraphilic sexual behavior, we review phenomenology, changes in the DSM-5 definition of paraphilias, assessment measures, associated psychopathology, risk factors (psychosocial and neurodevelopmental), and therapeutics (pharmacological and psychosocial).
