Abstract
Selon Saint-Réal, tel que cité par Stendhal dans Le Rouge et le noir : “un roman, c’est un miroir que l’on promène le long d’un chemin”. Tandis que Stendhal encourage le roman à dépasser la mimésis, le romancier contemporain considère plutôt le caractère mimétique de l’œuvre comme un défi avec lequel il faut travailler. L’œuvre d’Éric Chevillard propose un moyen de reconstituer les reflets du miroir dans un contexte contemporain sans avoir recours aux leurres de l’objectivité ou des absolus. En découle un réinvestissement du pouvoir de l’auteur, un refus de la fiabilité du narrateur, une réévaluation de l’intention du personnage et une reconceptualisation des modes de lecture contemporaine. La présente analyse narrative et esthétique s’intéresse à cette dernière conséquence en particulier, élaborant à travers trois romans chevillardiens les figures du lecteur narcissiste, du lecteur sceptique et du lecteur schizophrène.
