Abstract
Cette étude s’appuie sur une approche méthodologique novatrice dont l’évaluation constitue le premier objectif de ce texte. La nouveauté de cette approche tient au fait (1) qu’elle s’appuie sur les données nominatives de recensements et sur les mariages (fichier BALSAC) qui leur sont jumelés, afin de maximiser l’information disponible ; (2) qu’elle intègre les mariages protestants, qui ont été dépouillés et considérés au même titre que les mariages catholiques dans deux régions — la Gaspésie et la ville de Québec — à la fin duxixesiècle. Les résultats préliminaires de l’application de cette méthode sont utilisés ici pour explorer les trajectoires des enfants de couples culturellement exogames en les comparant à ceux de couples endogames. Cette analyse suggère l’existence de différences dans la dynamique de reproduction des diverses communautés culturelles et dans les mécanismes d’interaction entre ces communautés.
