In this paper, we investigate IIR digital filters for multiresolution image coding. Some relationships between the frequency response of a filter and the quality of the processed images are discussed for decimation and interpolation. A special class of half-band IIR filters (including 1-D filters and 2-D diamond filters) is then proposed. Some simulation results are given for image decomposition/reconstruction and high compression image coding.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">&gt;</ETX>
