Abstract
Pierre-Joseph Buc’hoz (Metz, 1731 – Paris, 1807), médecin botaniste attaché à la maison de Monsieur, frère de Louis XVI, publia de 1783 à 1785 deux cent soixante gravures de plantes (dont soixante jacinthes et tulipes) acclimatées et cultivées dans les jardins de la reine à Trianon. Du cap de Bonne-Espérance à la Guyane, de la Chine au Canada, de l’Afrique à la Sibérie, des voyageurs rapportaient alors graines et plantes que les jardiniers Richard père et fils acclimataient dans les serres chaudes de Trianon situées à l’emplacement du jardin anglais actuel dans le domaine de Versailles. Buc’hoz, déjà vivement critiqué de son vivant et qualifié au xixe siècle de « miserabilimus compilator », a publié un très grand nombre d’ouvrages d’histoire naturelle dont plusieurs in-folio. Très proche de la cour, il fut un véritable chroniqueur des faits scientifiques et botaniques des princes qu’il avait le privilège de côtoyer. Ainsi Le jardin d’Éden : le paradis terrestre renouvellé dans le jardin de la Reine à Trianon met en scène les voyageurs, botanistes, médecins, princes et mécènes qui ont permis de constituer dans les jardins de Trianon une collection botanique méconnue et oubliée.
