Abstract
Déconstruisant le mythe selon lequel l’école de la IIIe République aurait été idéalement et uniformément patriotique, l’article utilise des sources jusqu’ici inexploitées par les historiens de l’enseignement de l’histoire, les compositions françaises des élèves, pour réinterpréter l’évolution pacifiste des instituteurs et de leur enseignement dans l’entre-deux-guerres à l’aide du concept des « deux corps » de la nation, forgé d’après celui de « deux corps du roi » d’Ernst Kantorowicz : tandis que l’école enseigne toujours le « corps physique » de la nation, elle assigne à son histoire une autre fin, la paix, transformant ainsi profondément son « corps mystique ».
