Abstract
Les changements que la Chine connait depuis vingt ans n’ont pas ete que politiques ou economiques mais ils ont profondement touche la vie quotidienne des Chinois. Depuis la reforme economique, les Chinois ont reappris beaucoup de choses dont les soins du corps. La mise en scene du corps est en Chine un objet ambivalent. Elle est a la fois un objet de transgression, de plaisir, de contrainte, de tension et de distinction sociale. Elle est un analyseur banal des mutations invisibles qui traversent la societe chinoise. Les mutations du rapport au corps s’organisent autour des effets de generations, des effets de cycles de vie et des effets d’âge. La vie sociale du maquillage et des soins du corps montre la complexite de cette pratique qui ne se limite pas en Chine au plaisir individuel. Ce sont des pratiques sociales qui dependent des normes sociales, familiales, amicales, medicales et professionnelles. L’evolution de ces normes depend autant de celle des modes de vie et des valeurs de la classe moyenne urbaine chinoise que de l’offre de produits de beaute proposee par l’industrie cosmetique a travers le developpement de la grande distribution. In these twenty years, China has experienced a great change not only in economics and politics, but also in everyone’s daily life. Since the economic reform, Chinese people have relearned so many things including body care. In China, displaying one’s body is an ambiguous action, for it’s a matter of transgression, of pleasure, of restraint, of tension and of social distinction at the same time. It’s also a common tool to analyze the invisible changes affecting chinese society. The changes in body perception are determined by generation, by life cycle and by age. The social impact of make up and bodycare is enough to proof that they are not a matter of pleasure but are complicated social practices which obey the society, family, friendship, medical and professional norms. The evolution of these norms depends as much on the chinese middleclass lifestyle and values, as on bodycare products offered by cosmetics industry through large distribution.
