Abstract
Cet article illustre d'une part, la manire dont les hirarchies Fulbe traditionnelles au centre du Mali ont clairement dfini les relations de dpendance sociale, d'autre part leur rle important dans la politique locale. Les anciens esclaves, les Riimaybe, luttent pour trouver une nouvelle place dans la socit, en essayant de rconcilier pass et prsent. Les rcits historiques de trois groupes diffrents de Rumaybe dans des colonies diffrentes sont ici relats. Aprs quatre dcennies d'indpendance, et une priode o la conscience des droits de la personne et la dmocratisation se sont accrues, comment envisagent-ils leur situation} La majorit des Riimaybe doivent faire face des dilemmes sociaux et matriels lis l'accs aux agences de dveloppement, l'ducation et la politique. Leurs remarques sur l'identit sociale refltent la dynamique des ngociations en cours l'intrieur des relations hirarchiques actuelles.
