L’espace urbain montréalais illustre la fluidité croissante des nouvelles configurations territoriales qui émergent des changements dans l’établissement des immigrants dans les grandes métropoles. Les différentes vagues d’immigration ont laissé une empreinte dans les quartiers, d’abord divisés sur une base linguistique pour devenir des quartiers ethniques, puis multiethniques. Si les communautés colorent encore certains quartiers avec la présence de leurs institutions, en particulier les lieux de culte, les parcs ethniques et les événements festifs, les membres de ces communautés sont, eux, plus mobiles dans l’agglomération. Cette évolution pose de nouveaux défis aux chercheurs qui tentent de cerner les contours de ces territoires.
