Abstract
Cet article comprend trois parties. La première présente le féodalisme comme un élément conceptuel important à la compréhension de l'histoire de la Nouvelle-France et du Bas-Canada. La deuxième partie est une réflexion théorique sur les processus fondamentaux de la transition et de la révolution industrielle. Cette partie présente ces deux processus comme étant distincts, même s'il y a chevauchement sur le plan temporel. La troisième partie explore dans ses grandes lignes comment la transition du féodalisme au capitalisme dans la vallée du Saint-Laurent influença profondément la nature de la société québécoise industrielle. En guise de conclusion, nous présentons les liens entre les caractéristiques économiques de l'oppression nationale et la spécificité de la révolution industrielle au Québec, une spécificité qui témoigne de l'importance de la voie laurentienne au capitalisme.
