Abstract
Reviews the book, The Role of Sisters in Women's Development by Sue A. Kuba (see record rid]2011-10158-000/rid]). The book offers an intimate portrait of women’s development across the lifespan. The book highlights women’s evolving perceptions of their sisters across time and documents through extensive quotes, the varied events that altered their understanding of themselves and the sister relationship. In addition to the descriptive analysis of her interview material, the author explores a variety of theoretical and clinical models that complement and extend her framework, including object relation’s theory, relational cultural theory, and several approaches to family therapy. The book is complex and demanding, requiring patience from the reader who must integrate a broad array of theories with brief selections from the interview material and the author’s personal reflections. The book would serve well as an additional library resource for feminist researchers, students in women or gender studies programs, and graduate student sin clinical or family psychology programs.
