Este artigo refere-se à importância da democracia nos processos geradores do desenvolvimento local nos assentamentos rurais. Os autores basearam-se no núcleo conceitual de desenvolvimento em concordância com instituições como Universidade de Quebec, Canadá, apontando o projeto de assentamento Andalúcia, estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, como um exemplo prático de democracia como um fator relevante para se desencadear o desabrochamento das potencialidades locais.
