Cet article vise à explorer la notion d'identité narrative de Paul Ricoeur dans le cadre d'une réflexion théorique sur les technologies de communication, et plus spécifiquement internet. Il s'agira de s'interroger sur la validité conceptuelle de la notion d'identité narrative dans une analyse des usages d'internet. Si le rapport à soi est médié chez Ricoeur par les ressources de l'histoire racontée, le rapport à cette histoire suppose des formes préalablement instituées. Dans ce cadre, le rapport institué entre l'usager et sa machine suppose de s'interroger sur les possibilités de s'appuyer sur le concept d'identité narrative pour définir ces pratiques. Cet article ne prétend pas étudier les usages proprement dits d'internet mais vise à questionner l'adéquation théorique d'une notion susceptible d'être mobilisée dans les études sur les usages d'internet.
