Abstract
Le rôle de l’entrepreneur est fondamental dans la théorie de l’innovation conçue par Schumpeter. Toutefois, le concept d’entrepreneur est toujours un sujet de controverse. D’une part, il ne semble pas guidé par un intérêt égoïste tel que le proposent les tenants de la théorie du choix rationnel; d’autre part, il n’est pas non plus contraint entièrement par les barrières institutionnelles selon les préceptes de la théorie institutionnaliste. L’entrepreneur est capable de lever les obstacles afin d’innover. Dans cet article, nous traitons de la place de l’entrepreneur dans la conception de l’innovation sociale. Les connaissances développées sur le processus d’innovation sont complétées par des avancées dans la théorie du choix rationnel et dans la théorie institutionnaliste. Ainsi, le rôle de l’entrepreneur est mieux compris comme étant l’objet d’une tension entre l’intérêt individuel et le bien commun.
