22 cm, 283 p. (« Vérité des mythes », 36), 25 €, ISBN 978-2-251-32459-3. 1 Ce livre, paru en 1996, a fait l'objet, dans la RHR de 1997, d'un compte rendu de P. Payen auquel je renvoie volontiers le lecteur.Depuis, l'ouvrage a été traduit en italien (Bari, 1999), puis en anglais (Princeton, 2003), et l'auteur justifie sa seconde édition française : d'importantes contributions sur « le mythe » (par ex.E. Csapo, Theories of Mythology, 2005 ; S. Des Bouvries, « The Definition of Myth », in Myth and Symbol, I, 2002), d'abord, continuent d'ignorer que tout mythe doit être envisagé en fonction de chacun de ses contextes d'énonciation, tant au niveau de sa forme poétique ou discursive qu'au plan historique plus large (politique, religion, culture, si tant est qu'on puisse en Grèce démêler les trois niveaux).Ensuite vient une revendication davantage axée sur l'éthique contemporaine : face au dénigrement des sciences de l'homme en faveur de « l'économisme le plus destructeur, […] s'impose, dans notre approche des mondes antiques, la réaffirmation d'une anthropologie historique et critique sensible aux formes de discours et à leurs effets pratiques ».Contrairement aux rééditions qui n'en sont pas, ce livre a été remanié en bien des endroits, et la mise à jour bibliographique est un modèle du genre : rares sont les notes qui n'ont pas été augmentées.L'ouvrage est subdivisé en trois chapitres d'inégale ampleur.Une introduction théorique, (« Illusions de la mythologie »), reprend et affine vingt ans d'analyse du Claude Calame, Mythe et histoire dans l'Antiquité grecque.La création symbol...
