Cet article propose trois portraits d’étudiants québécois en formation à l’éducation préscolaire et à l’enseignement primaire en ce qui concerne les représentations du français oral standard, telles qu’ils les ont exprimées dans le cadre de groupes de discussion, et leurs pratiques orales effectives en classe de stage. Si le premier portrait montre une cohérence entre représentations et pratiques effectives, les deux autres illustrent plutôt des contradictions. Les résultats de la recherche permettent de formuler quelques recommandations quant à la formation des enseignants à l’oral et à la didactique de l’oral, notamment en ce qui concerne la variation linguistique et la maitrise des registres de langue.
