Cet article présente les changements législatifs adoptés qui visent à encadrer la pratique de la psychothérapie au Québec. Ceux-ci ont un impact direct sur la pratique de la psychothérapie et sur la définition même de ce qu’est la psychothérapie. Les thérapeutes d’orientation gestaltiste pourront-ils continuer à exercer leur pratique en respectant les obligations déontologiques et éthiques découlant de ces changements ? L’étude de thèmes importants tels que la validation des traitements, les compétences professionnelles et les caractéristiques des thérapeutes efficaces permet de répondre favorablement à cette question. Le rôle de l’empathie en tant qu’élément central d’une pratique éthique est également abordé.
