Cet article explore le fonctionnement du monstrueux – plus precisement, la transmutation et le processus de transformation en monstre – dans le discours theâtral de la piece Capture Me de Judith Thompson. La sixieme piece de Thompson, dont la premiere a eu lieu en janvier 2004 au Tarragon Theatre a Toronto, transcende le simple binaire «bien vs. mal» pour se demander si nous sommes tous des versions de monstres; dans nos roles de mari, ami, pere ou mere, la rage est en nous tous. Cet article est ne de la lecture des ecrits de Susan J. Brison (Aftermath: Violence and the Remaking of a Self) et Margrit Shildrick (Embodying the Monster: Encounters with the Vulnerable Self), exposes de faits qui facilitent l’examen des procedes par lesquels Capture Me deconstruit et reconstruit les frontiers qui entourent et separent a la fois le soi et le monstre, et l’observation des conditions et des lieux dans lesquels le monstrueux est present dans la societe occidentale contemporaine.
