Abstract
L’auteur a tiré cette note de recherche de son année de recherche au sein des archives du diocèse d’Aix-en-Provence consacrée à l’étude du pèlerinage des Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer en Camargue. Cet événement, qui a lieu les 25 et 26 mai dans le sud de la France, est le site de rassemblement des gitans qui vouent un culte à sainte Sara, dite Sara la noire, que le légendaire présente comme la servante des Saintes-Maries. L’essentiel de ses recherches archivistiques portaient sur l’histoire des origines de l’énigmatique figure de “sainte” Sara dont la présence n’a pas toujours été aussi bien tolérée par les responsables de l’encadrement clérical de ce pèlerinage. Son travail de terrain lui aura fait découvrir des marqueurs identitaires jusque-là insoupçonnés.
