Abstract
Resume Objectif : Developper un rapport structure de surveillance de l’utilisation des antimicrobiens dans un centre hospitalier universitaire mere-enfant. Description de la problematique : Le ministere de la Sante et des Services sociaux du Quebec a produit une circulaire administrative favorisant la mise en place d’un programme structure de surveillance de la consommation des antimicrobiens. Agrement Canada a fait de la surveillance de l’utilisation des antimicrobiens une pratique organisationnelle requise. Neanmoins, il n’existe pas de rapport type de surveillance adapte a son suivi. Resolution de la problematique : Notre equipe de recherche s’est interessee au developpement d’un outil annuel consensuel, devant soutenir les activites du comite de revue des antimicrobiens, du comite de pharmacologie, du Conseil des medecins, dentistes et pharmaciens ainsi que de toute autre partie prenante interessee, destine a repondre aux exigences du ministere de la Sante et des Services sociaux du Quebec. Depuis 2000-2001, des travaux exploratoires ont ete realises sur plusieurs annees cibles avec pour objectif de connaitre la consommation d’antimicrobiens dans notre etablissement ainsi que son evolution et de determiner les variables pertinentes a integrer dans ce rapport. Conclusion : A notre connaissance, il s’agit d’une premiere publication de rapport type de surveillance de l’utilisation des antimicrobiens. L’experience de notre centre hospitalier universitaire mere-enfant peut contribuer a developper un outil intelligible pour les cliniciens et les administrateurs du reseau de la sante au Quebec. Abstract Objective: To develop a structured surveillance report for antimicrobial utilization in a university mother-child hospital. Description of problem: The Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services has issued an administrative memo promoting the creation of a structured antimicrobial utilization program. Accreditation Canada has made antimicrobial utilization surveillance a required organizational practice. However, there is no suitable standard surveillance report for such use. Solving of problem: Our research team undertook to develop a consensus-based annual tool aimed at supporting the activities of the Antimicrobial Review Committee, the Pharmacology Committee, the Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists, and any other interested stakeholder, and intended to meet the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services’ requirements. Starting in 2000-2001, exploratory work was carried out over several target years to determine the use and changes in the use of antimicrobials in our facility and to identify the relevant variables to be included in the report. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first time a standard antimicrobial utilization surveillance report has been published. The experience of our university mother-child hospital may contribute to the development of an intelligible tool for clinicians and administrators in Quebec’s health-care system.
