Cross-cultural and transformative learning: Experiences of volunteer mentors in an immigrant workplace connections program
Bibliographic record
Abstract
While successful integration involves mutual obligations for new immigrants and Canadian society, research has exten- sively focused on how immigrants have integrated. Few stud- ies have examined how the host population may have co-inte- grated or changed as a result of encounters with immigrants. This study addresses this void in research with an examina - tion of the learning experiences of 18 volunteer mentors from an immigrant workplace connection program in Vancouver. The study finds that mentoring has afforded respondents a space of learning. While mentoring immigrants from different backgrounds, respondents have not only developed knowledge but also expanded their work and life re- lated skills and knowledge. For instance, some have re-exam- ined the emotional and relational dimension of themselves. Some have also learned and relearned the exclusiveness of Ca- nadian institutions and become cultural bridges and indeed advocates for immigrants within workplaces and professions.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
