A quoi tient l'identité d'un auteur ? A la langue qu'il utilise ? Mais toute langue est porteuse de culture et toute culture peut contraindre une langue d'emprunt et l'adapter à son génie. Il y a donc, avant la langue, un ancrage originel qui détermine le romancier et conditionne son écriture. Chez Kourouma cet ancrage est celui du chasseur. Que ce soit sur le plan des valeurs, de la narration ou du style, il affirme sa vision cynégétique du monde. Mettre à ce jour ce système de pensée, identifier ses structures et comprendre leur fonctionnement, permettra d'accéder au non-dit du texte, de matérialiser ce qui fait la singularité de l'écrivain malinké, exemple probant de spécificité africaine dans le cadre de la francophonie.
