Trente-sept ans après la parution de deux biographies sur Jean Despréz, publiées peu de temps après sa mort en 1965, 1 François- Xavier Simard et André La Rose publient leur propre version des splendeurs et misères de la vie d'une femme orchestre, à la fois comédienne, metteur en scène, scénariste du premier long métrage de langue française au Québec, chroniqueur pour revues et journaux, animatrice à la radio et à la télévision, courriériste du coeur et surtout, l'un des auteurs radiophoniques les plus proli- fiques de sa génération.
