Dans le cadre d’une évaluation nationale en mathématiques en fin d’école primaire (élèves de 10-11 ans) en France nous proposons, dans cet article, d’étudier plus particulièrement les items relevant de la résolution de problèmes afin de déterminer quelles compétences et connaissances sont véritablement évaluées par un dispositif comportant une grande part de QCM (questions à choix multiple). À cette fin, nous serons amenées à utiliser un outil didactique décliné en facteurs de complexité et de compétence, mais aussi à considérer les stratégies que les élèves utilisent pour répondre à ce type d’évaluation. Dans une expérimentation menée parallèlement à ce bilan, nous examinerons l’activité de résolution de problèmes suivant deux modalités de questionnement (fermé ou plus classique) afin de déterminer si elles ont une incidence sur les résultats des élèves. Nous souhaitons ainsi appréhender l’activité de résolution de problèmes en mathématiques aussi bien d’un point de vue cognitif (notamment avec les rétroactions rendues possibles par les QCM) que d’un point de vue institutionnel, en tenant compte de l’influence de différentes modalités d’évaluation.
