Self‐Assembly and Applications of Polyferrocenylsilane Block Copolymers

Abstract
The study of block copolymers and their applications in nanoscience represents one of the most active areas in polymer materials science and PFS block copolymers are making a significant contribution to this field. PFS block copolymers can be prepared via living anionic and photocontrolled living anionic ring-opening polymerization routes and well-defined PFS block copolymer architectures are readily accessible. These materials exhibit both predicted behavior in terms of self-assembled morphologies, especially in the solid state, as well as unprecedented morphologies in solution as a result of PFS core crystallization. The presence of Fe and Si in PFS block copolymers offers exciting possibilities for the development of new functional nanostructured materials via simple self-assembly approaches. Applications as etch resists for the creation of nanopatterned surfaces for SERS applications, high-density magnetic data storage, and catalytic applications have already been realized. Further interesting phenomena and applications are likely to be discovered in the future.
