Abstract
Ce dialogue avec Jean-Jacques Nattiez reproduit l’essentiel des propos tenus sur ce sujet par Pierre Boulez à Ottawa, Montréal et Halifax au cours de sa tournée canadienne de mai-juin 1991. Le compositeur y reconnaît les difficultés du public à accepter le système de Schoenberg tout en déniant une quelconque responsabilité quant à la cassure actuelle entre la musique contemporaine et le public. Sans reconnaître l’existence d’une crise compositionnelle, il prône une attention plus grande aux problèmes de perception et définit pour lui-même l’avenir de la musique comme une musique atonale tenant compte des lois universelles de la perception mais intégrant les acquis d’écriture du sérialisme.
