Abstract
Les « sans papiers » algériens rencontrés en France dans les années 2000 posent à l’ethnologue une « énigme ». Cet article vise à rendre compte de la construction d’une ethnographie multisituée dans le cas des migrations algériennes irrégulières et de ce qu’elle donne à comprendre sur le sens de ces migrations. La continuité historique de la migration comme « fille du colonialisme », la conjoncture géopolitique algérienne et les politiques d’immigration de la France constituent le cadre et le contexte d’une migration qualifiée d’irrégulière. Coincés dans la contradiction entre une politique sécuritaire et un traitement humanitaire au cas par cas, ces migrants oscillent entre la figure du clandestin, de la victime et du fraudeur. Mais nous analysons aussi comment les figures du migrant économique, familial ou victime peuvent s’enchevêtrer et se doubler d’un sujet acteur d’un projet migratoire en quête de reconnaissance et de réussite sociale ici et là-bas.
