Abstract
Dans cet article, l’auteure cherche à mettre en lumière l’idéologie de l’Orient chez l’écrivaine Marie José Thériault, dont la pratique de l’orientalisme informe et traverse celle de l’écriture romanesque, notamment dans son unique roman Les demoiselles de Numidie (1984). Notre souci sera de vérifier comment l’auteure fait de l’Orient arabe son ailleurs de rêve et de fantasmes pour favoriser une certaine féminisation du monde et de la culture. Si le système de modélisation identitaire est généralement l’Orient des Mille et une nuits, il convient de se demander dans quelle mesure la rencontre avec cet Orient altéritaire résoud d’une façon dialogique ou monologique la problématique des rapports amoureux, laquelle se trouve au centre de l’oeuvre et qui n’est, en fin de compte, qu’une large métaphore filée du rapport Occident-Orient.
