Abstract

The enhancement of living standard is accompanied with rising both demand of air-conditioner and construction of large building. Consequently the additional request of electric power tends to be increased abruptly. But construction of power plant to supply to those electric power demand is encountering with the problem of capital and duration of construction. For these reason, the first ice storage system was installed in 1989 by KEPCO, and the application of ice storage system is being adopted gradually. Generally screw chiller, reciprocating chiller and centrifugal chiller are adopted to ice storage system within the country. Especially centrifugal chiller to be used in this system has applied R123 refrigerant. But R123 is restricted by Montreal Protocol, and many advanced states have developed and sell cooling device using other alternative refrigerants. After the consideration of the using of alternative refrigerant and the comparison of operation cost and efficiency, R134a centrifugal chiller was applied instead of R123 machine.
