Dans la foulee de la world music internationale et des tendances glocal des annees 1990, les intellectuels et les politiciens du Salento. – region au sud de l’Italie – engagent autour du patrimoine musical paysan un processus de construction identitaire oriente vers le developpement touristique et socioeconomique du territoire. La reflexion developpee au cours de cette etude vise a expliquer comment une pratique musicale preexistante peut prendre des connotations symboliques inedites a l’interieur d’un nouveau contexte historique et socioculturel, et comment la musique se voit modifiee en ce sens. Le territoire dont il est question se prete de surcroit assez bien a cette demonstration, etant donne qu’un mouvement revivaliste s’etait deja developpe une premiere fois durant les annees 1970 sous l’influence du folk revival americain.
