Abstract

Le protagoniste de L’enfant chargé de songes (1992) d’Anne Hébert a fait un voyage de Québec à Paris, qui contribuera à l’évolution de son identité personnelle et culturelle. Le titre du roman annonce déjà que les « songes » vont jouer un rôle primordial tant sur le plan thématique que sur le protocole de lecture. La combinaison originale du réalisme spatio-temporel avec l’onirisme contribuera à la polysémie du texte. L’analyse sera d’abord concentrée sur le début du roman : l’ incipit in medias res , les topoi , le protocole de lecture, la focalisation, la présentation successive des personnages et la thématisation. L’analyse de la fin du roman montrera ensuite que l’effet du voyage identitaire sur la personnalité de Julien permettra des interprétations variées 1 .
