Ces tableaux rendus impressionnants par leur avalanche de metaphores se presentent comme des revelations ou apocalypses et appartiennent a la litterature apocalyptique, connue des Hebreux sans doute des le rye siec1e avant Jesus-Christ. On en trouve des exemples dans les livres d'"Ezechiel, d'Isa'ie, de Jeremie.
