Abstract
Sócrates (Platão) tinha uma frágil visão da Retórica como era praticada em sua época, em Atenas, o que não o inclinava a dignificá-la com o nome de arte. Tinha, ao mesmo tempo, uma noção vigorosa do que consistia uma genuína Arte da Retórica. Neste texto, planejo um sobrevôo nas suas opiniões sobre o assunto, baseando-me substancialmente em duas fontes principais, o Górgias e o Fedro, seguidos pelo que penso ser a principal força e fraqueza no seu argumento. Na sequência, questionarei sobre o peso do que ele tem para dizer (ou algo com respeito a isso, de qualquer modo), se é e poderá ser de interesse e preocupação.
