Abstract
A bárbara Medeia torna-se progressivamente uma mulher grega na Argonáutica de Apolónio de Rodes. Para esta metamorfose é fundamental a morte de Absirto, pois o jovem ia no encalço dos argonautas na qualidade de tutor legal, άοσσητήρ (4.406), da irmã. Depois da sua morte elimina-se o obstáculo jurídico ao casamento de Medeia e é possível o apoio de Alcínoo. É em Drépano que ficamos a saber que a filha mais nova de Eetes deixou de ser um elemento estranho e uma bárbara aos olhos dos gregos. O juramento pela vida da princesa (4.1055-1057) que os argonautas fazem, de espada em punho, confirma o seu novo estatuto. Mais tarde, diante do gigante de bronze (4.1660-1661), ela surge na sua nova posição, enfatizada pelo gesto de Jasão que lhe dá a mão para atravessar o barco (4.1663). Medeia torna-se, ao mesmo tempo, argonauta e grega, sem nunca dissimular a sua natureza de feiticeira (4.1677). O nosso propósito é, portanto, destacar esta metamorfose, que principia com a morte de Absirto.
