Abstract
Résumé Les grands-parents occupent une nouvelle place centrale au sein de la famille. Dotés de pleines capacités psychophysiologiques, de temps libre et de revenus, grâce à l’amélioration de l’espérance de vie et des retraites, ils sont plus fortement sollicités par leurs enfants pour aider à la prise en charge des petits-enfants. Leur rôle actif et solidaire est renforcé par les besoins des familles résultant du développement du travail des femmes ainsi que des ruptures conjugales. En témoigne leur investissement important dans la garde des petits-enfants, dans les aides financières aux enfants et petits-enfants. Cette nouvelle figure grand-parentale est généralisée en Europe, au-delà des spécificités nationales, comme le montrent de récentes données comparatives. Dans la famille moderne, le rôle de garant de la filiation et de la continuité familiale paraît ainsi désormais dévolu, en grande partie, aux grands-parents.
