Abstract
Quoique rarement théorisée de manière explicite, l’analogie, stratégie de pensée et d’écriture à la fois, s’inscrit au coeur de l’oeuvre valéryenne. Elle y joue le rôle de moteur caché d’une méthode qui, quoique marquée par sa visée éminemment théorique, se conçoit comme l’antithèse des conceptions de l’esprit qui dominent la philosophie en tant que discipline historique et démarche d’analyse. Notamment, l’analogie semble fournir à Valéry un outil indispensable dans sa recherche d’un dépassement de toute volonté de représentation de la pensée en tant que totalité fermée, sans pour autant lui imposer de renoncer à l’interrogation de ce phénomène mystérieux et secret qu’est la vie d’une conscience. De plus, l’oeuvre de Valéry elle-même semble pouvoir se lire à plusieurs égards comme une tentative de fabriquer, à travers l’écriture, un analogon de l’insaisissable et protéiforme puissance de l’esprit. Cet analogon , dans son irréductible matérialité, rappelle en même temps à l’intelligence la charnalité de son double inéluctable. Ainsi, dans la pratique valéryenne qui prend forme dans les Cahiers , pendant que le regard de la conscience sur la conscience devient prolifération sensible des images de pensée, l’écriture se révèle être un corps possible du langage, énigmatique et miraculeuse comme l’admirable obscurité de nos organes.
