Abstract
Dès le XVe siècle, lorsqu’elle met en place peu à peu des ambassades stables à travers l’Italie et l’Europe, la République de Venise prend grand soin de choisir ses ambassadeurs parmi l’élite de la gent patricienne. Tous, en effet, sont des hommes d’expérience, qui appartiennent aux plus vieilles familles, associées et aguerries dans la conduite des affaires de l’État. Venise élabore également une série de règles qui, au XVIe siècle, atteignent leur point d’aboutissement, et qui touchent aux différents aspects d’une mission, depuis l’élection et le départ de l’ambassadeur jusqu’à l’obligation de la Relazione finale. Ainsi l’activité diplomatique vénitienne connaît-elle à cette époque, riche en événements, son plus haut degré de développement, pour servir au mieux les intérêts de la Sérénissime.
