Abstract
À la suite de la publication d’un texte d’Arnaud Mercier (2012) sur la situation des universités en France, nous avons été invité à rédiger un article ayant pour but de favoriser des échanges sur ce thème. Pour mener à bien ce projet, nous avons décidé de nous intéresser plus spécifiquement à la situation de ces institutions au Québec. Globalement, notre point de vue est très proche de celui d’Arnaud Mercier. Mais nous mettons aussi l’accent sur les différences contextuelles. C’est ainsi que l’autonomie universitaire est une réalité ancienne de ce côté de l’océan Atlantique, mais, dorénavant et de manière croissante, celle-ci revêt de nouvelles formes de compétition entre universités. Après quoi, nous aborderons la question du financement qui a été au cœur du mouvement étudiant de 2012. Enfin, nous analyserons quelques conséquences sur la recherche et l’enseignement avant de conclure sur notre rôle dans les transformations en cours.
