Abstract
Au Québec, si la formation, le diplôme, la qualification légale d’enseigner et l’affiliation à un ministère de l’Éducation ont longtemps été des piliers d’une identité collective enseignante forte et valorisante, il en est aujourd’hui autrement suite aux nombreux changements sociaux, économiques et éducatifs qui affectent le travail de l’enseignant et remettent parfois en cause sa propre légitimité. D’aucuns admettent que la profession d’enseignant s’est complexifiée et alourdie au fil des ans et que son prestige social est en déclin. À cet égard, les difficultés actuelles d’attrait et de rétention des enseignants ainsi que le fort taux d’abandon durant les cinq premières années de carrière sont sans doute révélateurs d’un malaise collectif et de crises individuelles profondes. Dans ce texte, nous désirons interroger et discuter, à partir des perspectives d’enseignants du Québec, les aspects critiques de leur expérience de carrière.
