Abstract
Voil un ouvrage qui contribue redonner ses lettres de noblesse l'histoire de l'Empire. Tout en soulignant que ce rgime n'est pas que la guerre, il rappelle que cette priode doit se lire dans un cadre europen. Car le gouvernement napolonien est tout la fois initiateur du retour la paix religieuse et fondateur d'un nouveau mode de relations entre les socits europennes et la religion . Jacques-Olivier Boudon montre de surcrot comment la restauration religieuse s'inscrit dans le cadre d'un programme de modernisation des socits europennes. Tout en introduisant des rformes prenant en compte la philosophie des Lumires, Napolon a toujours considr les religions comme ncessaires la solidit des tats.
