Abstract
Abstract High density polyethylene and polyamide 11 materials were tested as candidates for hydrocarbon pipeline liners. It is known that exposure to either hydrocarbons or elevated temperatures will adversely affect the mechanical properties of some thermoplastics. This testing was performed in a highly aromatic liquid hydrocarbon liquid at various temperatures to quantify the combined effect on material properties. These results were then used to develop a model which predicts liner properties and pipeline liner collapse. This paper provides the exposure results and the basis of the model along with some examples of applications.
