Le logement social abordable pour aînés relève d’une politique d’appui aux personnes âgées les plus vulnérables, avec le soutien à domicile et les régimes publics de retraite. Le vieillissement de la population accroît cependant le coût de ces services et les administrations publiques au Québec hésitent à les développer. Conséquemment, à Montréal, le logement social abordable pour aînés souffre d’un déficit de places, l’Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal et la Société d’habitation du Québec devant composer avec ces limitations de ressources. Pourtant, le logement constitue le besoin prioritaire pour les personnes âgées alors que nous constatons la prépondérance grandissante du secteur privé.
