Deconstructing knowledge of mothering in adult education: Chinese immigrant mothers in Canadian parenting education programs
Bibliographic record
Abstract
This paper examines the learning practice of Chinese immigrant mothers in Canadian parenting education programs. It utilizes a Marxist-feminist theoretical framework to problematize the notion of “migrant mothers.” It uses two examples of Chinese immigrant mothers’ participation in these programs in order to address not only the effect of differentiation on immigrant mothers, but also how their “knowledge” should be understood in the theory and practice of adult education. It argues that the process of knowledge production, as a “class-based activity within the capitalist mode of production,” has to be understood from the dialectics of “ideology” (Carpenter & Mojab, 2011, p. 10). It concludes that migrant mothers’ knowledge production, learning practice, and identity construction become a standpoint that challenges not only the structure of learning in Canadian parenting programs, but also the theory and practice in adult education.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
