Le dictionnaire regardera l’avenir, les pieds enfoncés dans son riche passé. Il sera multiculturel : il décrira la langue française telle qu’elle est dans chaque zone du monde et dans les régions de l’hexagone, sur le plan phonétique et sémantique. Ce sera un dictionnaire de la diversité : livre de la synthèse, et texte-somme de la langue. Il est indispensable de trouver un équilibre entre multimédia, hypermédia, interactivité et humanisme, celui-ci étant le cœur du dictionnaire. Les mille et une ressources des bases de données textuelles peuvent se marier avec la force de la tradition, de la culture et de la littérature.
